Did you know that according to the National Pavement Contractors Association, a properly applied sealcoat can extend the life of asphalt pavement by up to 50 percent? Sealcoating is an important part of maintaining your asphalt surface and protecting it from damage caused by water, sun exposure, and traffic. It is recommended that property owners get their asphalt surfaces sealcoated at least every two to three years. Fortunately, at Seal-A-Drive, our team of professionals can provide a quality sealcoating job quickly and efficiently.

What Is Sealcoating?

Sealcoating is a protective material applied to asphalt pavement surfaces. It coats the surface – sealing out moisture, protecting against oxidation and weathering, and filling in small cracks to prevent water from entering the base material. Sealcoat also provides attractive color and texture, enhancing the overall look of your property.

the benefits of sealcoating

Sealcoating can be a great way to:

Extend the life of your asphalt by 50%

Help retain a skid-resistant, matte surface

Enhance the value of your property

Protect the asphalt from damaging UV rays and chemicals

Improve the overall appearance of your property

Help block out weeds and grasses from growing through asphalt pavement

Increase traction for vehicles on driveways or parking lots

Save you money on costly repairs that could occur down the road without sealcoating

Create a waterproof surface that will help prevent water damage, cracking, potholes, and other signs of wear

why is sealcoating important?

Erosion of your blacktop occurs when water seeps beneath the surface and continually freezes and thaws. Through changing seasons, the surface is attacked by wind, excessive heat, gas, oil, and salt, which leave the asphalt porous and gray. Oxidation begins to loosen the top coat. A fresh brush or spray application of our premium sealer will preserve and protect against these destructive forces. This will leave your entire blacktop surface easier to clean and maintain for years to come.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is sealcoating and why should I do it?

Sealcoating is the process of applying a protective black coating to asphalt pavements in order to preserve its integrity. Routine maintenance keeps your driveway protected and aesthetically pleasing. Plus, it saves you money as it will delay deterioration and having to replace the whole driveway.

Sealcoating is not a one-time structural repair. It should be done every 2 - 3 years.

  • How often should I sealcoat my driveway?

On average, every 2-3 years. The major factors that affect how the sealer wears is traffic flow, UV ray exposure, water erosion, freezing temperatures and other winter weather conditions.

  • What is the difference between brushing and spraying the sealer?

Seal-A-Drive hand-brushes every driveway unless otherwise requested. By doing so, we can ensure consistent coverage, higher quality adhesion, and cleaner edges. For textured driveways, the bristles of the broom are especially ideal. We do not use rubber squeegees to apply sealer.
